Let’s Read Tweets About the Andrew Wiggins/D’Angelo Russell Trade

We have an NBA blockbuster trade on our hands! Here is the original tweet from Adrian Wojnarowski:

On paper, this is a phenomenal trade for the Timberwolves. As a casual fan, one of the main things keeping me from going all in was Andrew Wiggins’ contract. He’s making about $30 million per year through 2023, but has been an average player (despite small flashes of brilliance) since his debut in 2014.

The Wolves needed to make a change, and D’Angelo Russell is a young, talented offensive player who happens to be close friends with the Wolves’ franchise star, Karl-Anthony Towns. I’m not sure there will be a huge change in on-court production as a result of this trade, but keeping KAT happy should be the main priority of the front office. Giving up a top-3 protected first round pick in 2021 and second round pick in 2021 doesn’t seem like a very steep price to get rid of Wiggins’s contract and bring in a guy who serves a major purpose in the long-term success of the team.

There’s my perspective. As you can imagine, there are a few others on Twitter who may or may not agree with me. I’ll now take a closer look at some of their thoughts in one of my favorite series. Let’s read tweets!

Here is someone with a much different perspective than mine. More power to him for seeing the bright side of this as a Warriors fan. There certainly are some positives, but my thoughts on Wiggins are pretty much set in stone. His contract is a burden to work around if you’re trying to build a championship team.

I’d love to see a conversation between Randall and Dan from the tweet above.

Rich offers an interesting point. I was under the impression that having four All-Stars in the starting lineup is what made Golden State a championship caliber team. We’ll see if they can bulk that bench up before next season if they want to make another run at a title. Bonus points for randomly capitalizing “They.”

Clearly a huge Wiggins fan, Kyle is excited that he will be able to see a lot more of him after this trade. I’m very happy for him. Now let me address the other two issues: 1. It’s 10:30am on a Thursday in California, I’d guess 95% of the population is awake. 2. It won’t be difficult to find someone who is currently online, as the Internet is available 24/7 around the entire world.

Love where Joe is coming from. Shameless daily fantasy sports player trying to capitalize on the few games each year Wiggins is productive – the ones where he has more motivation than just being a professional athlete that gets almost half a million dollars every time he steps on the court.

Time will tell who got the better end of this deal. As a Minnesota fan, I’m prepared for Wiggins to turn his career around, be a perennial All-Pro for Golden State, and a vital part of more championships.
